I founded the Law Office of Megan K. Stedtfeld to provide cities, counties, special districts, and other California public agencies with thoughtful, responsive, and dependable legal counsel grounded in practical solutions, professionalism, and strong working relationships. My practice is focused exclusively on representing public entities as outside contract counsel and does not represent individual clients.

With nearly 20 years of legal experience — including a decade serving in county counsel offices — I understand the unique challenges public agencies face and the importance of trusted, steady guidance in local government. Prior to establishing my practice, I served as County Counsel for Calaveras County and Assistant County Counsel for the County of Yolo, advising elected officials, department leadership, boards, commissions, and public agencies on a broad range of municipal law matters.

My experience includes governance and transparency laws, emergency response, land use, environmental matters, risk management, and complex litigation. Most recently, I represented public entities in environmental and public impact litigation involving wildfires, PFAS contamination, plastics pollution, and social media harms. I have also presented and written on emerging municipal issues for organizations including the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA), CalCities, and the County Counsels’ Association.
